Fatal Walnut Creek, Calif. police shooting death of Joaquin Anthony “Tony” Pereya – Obituary
Joaquin Anthony “Tony” Pereya, a resident of Walnut Creek, was killed in a police shooting early Thursday morning near Buena Vista Elementary School. Authorities reported that the incident took place around midnight at the intersection of Alvarado and Buena Vista avenues.
Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots at the time, and the coroner’s office removed Pereya’s body from the scene just after 7 a.m. No officers were injured in the confrontation. Walnut Creek Police Department confirmed the area is secure and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Pereya’s mother stated that her son had a history of mental illness and was likely on his way home when the deadly encounter occurred. Officials have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
