Fatal San Diego County traffic crash death of Joell Jamie – Obituary
Authorities in San Diego County have released the identities of six individuals who died in separate traffic incidents across the region in recent weeks.
The most recent fatality occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday on West Mission Bay Drive in San Diego. Police said 33-year-old Joell Jamie was struck by two vehicles while in the roadway. She died at the scene. Investigators reported that the driver of the first vehicle involved left the area heading south and has not yet been identified, while the second driver stopped and cooperated with officers.
Another deadly crash took place shortly after 10 a.m. Friday in Valley Center. Officials said 48-year-old Jacob Berntsen was driving an SUV along Lilac Road when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree south of Old Castle Road. Berntsen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier in the week, a pedestrian was killed on Feb. 24 along state Route 52 in the Clairemont area. Authorities reported that 48-year-old Francis Gray was standing in a lane of eastbound traffic when a pickup truck struck him just after 1:30 a.m. He died before emergency crews could transport him to a hospital.
A head-on crash on Feb. 23 also claimed a life near the U.S.-Mexico border. According to investigators, 35-year-old Miguel Araque of Los Angeles was traveling east on state Route 94 when the Nissan Cube he was driving crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a Dodge Ram near Little Tecate Road. Araque was flown by helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he died shortly after arriving.
Another pedestrian fatality occurred on the evening of Feb. 20 in Ramona. Officials said Enrique Diaz, who had just turned 69 that day, was walking along a dark portion of state Route 67 near state Route 78 when he was struck by a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck around 7:30 p.m. Diaz died at the scene.
In Oceanside, 52-year-old Scott Weiler suffered critical head injuries on Feb. 10 when he lost control of an electric bicycle while riding west along South Coast Highway. The bicycle slammed into a light pole. Weiler was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he died 19 days later from his injuries.
