A Vermont woman has died after suffering serious injuries in a vehicle crash that occurred last month in Lunenburg.

According to Vermont State Police, 75-year-old Norene Emrick-Brooks of Concord was injured on February 19 at approximately 4:09 p.m. She was riding as a passenger in a vehicle traveling along River Road/East Concord Road near the intersection of Walker Pit Road.

Authorities said the driver lost control of the vehicle after encountering black ice while navigating a sweeping curve. The vehicle slid off the roadway and collided with several trees.

First responders removed Emrick-Brooks from the wreckage and transported her to Littleton Regional Healthcare. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for further treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Emrick-Brooks died from her injuries on March 3.

Police identified the driver as 31-year-old Elizabeth Dawson. She sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being released.

Vermont State Police have since taken over the investigation because the crash resulted in a fatality, and officials say the case remains under review.
