Authorities in Lexington, Minnesota, are investigating a deadly incident that claimed the lives of a woman and her young son inside a suburban home. The woman has been identified as 44-year-old Jennifer Marsaw.

Police were called to a residence near the 9300 block of Ryan Place shortly before 1 a.m. on March 18 following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered Marsaw deceased inside the home, along with her 5-year-old son, Marzai Dawson, who was critically injured.

The child was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement agencies, including K-9 units, conducted a search of the surrounding area and located a man who was taken into custody in connection with the case. Authorities stated the suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe the incident was not random and have assured the public there is no ongoing threat. The case remains under active investigation.
