Donmaid Brooks, 26, was discovered dead Tuesday morning in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire near 59th Street and Third Avenue around 6:45 a.m., where they found Brooks suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, located just south of Slauson Avenue and west of Van Ness Avenue. The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner later confirmed his identity. Police have opened a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
