Fatal Traverse City officer-involved shooting death of Darnell Wilson – Obituary
Darnell Wilson, 50, of Traverse City, was killed Friday afternoon in an officer-involved shooting at an apartment complex on the 400 block of Munson Place. Traverse City Police officers entered the apartment and found Wilson on the living room floor. When they announced their presence, Wilson reportedly armed himself with a knife and advanced toward the officers. After verbal commands and a Taser proved ineffective, officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding him.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Wilson succumbed to his injuries. A 58-year-old woman also suffered multiple stab wounds during the incident, including serious internal injuries; she underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering. All officers involved were unharmed and have been placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation proceeds. Michigan State Police are leading the inquiry into the officer-involved shooting, while the Traverse City Police Department continues investigating the related domestic assault.
