Fatal Missouri City crash claims lives of Angela Stewart and Mason Stewart – Obituary**

A Missouri City police officer, identified as 27-year-old Blademir Viveros, is facing legal action a month after colliding with a teenager and his mother, resulting in their deaths. The incident, which occurred on June 20, saw Officer Viveros allegedly driving without emergency lights activated, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Angela Stewart, 53, who served as a counselor in Houston ISD, and her 16-year-old son Mason Stewart, were struck by the police vehicle in the 1600 block of Cartwright Road. Officer Viveros was reportedly speeding while responding to a reported robbery, traveling eastbound in the 16-1700 block of Cartwright Road when the collision occurred as the Stewarts exited a Dollar Tree parking lot.

Missouri City PD stated that the Stewarts failed to yield the right of way before the collision. However, a lawsuit filed against Officer Viveros and the police department alleges negligence, citing his failure to activate emergency lights and sirens, among other claims.

The crash also involved a complicating factor: Michael Hawkins, 53, who was discovered in the back of the police cruiser hours after the collision. Hawkins had been placed there after a caretaker called 911 due to his unusual behavior earlier that night. He remains hospitalized with paralysis from the waist down and is on life support at Ben Taub Hospital.

Authorities are investigating why Hawkins was in the cruiser at the time of the crash, which occurred contrary to department policy concerning transporting individuals while responding to emergencies. Officer Viveros, who had less than a year of service with Missouri City PD and had prior law enforcement experience elsewhere, is at the center of scrutiny regarding the handling of the incident.

The lawsuit further contends that Missouri City police failed to adequately train and supervise its officers, contributing to the tragic outcome of the incident.
