Police reported that the incident happened shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Friday at the roundabout located at the intersection of East Ash Street and North Center Street. When officers arrived, they found that Simmons had been involved in a single-vehicle accident.

Investigators say Simmons lost control of his car and crashed into a tree within the roundabout, resulting in fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews from the Goldsboro Fire Department and Wayne County EMS responded to assist. Authorities noted that speed appears to have played a role in the crash, though it remains unclear whether alcohol was a factor.
