Excessive speed was cited as a significant factor in the Easter Sunday collision on U.S. Route 90 in Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

A tragic incident unfolded on Easter Sunday in Texas as Tiffany Rodriguez, a 25-year-old mother, and her 5-year-old daughter Ariella lost their lives in a crash on U.S. Route 90. The Harris County Sheriff, Ed Gonzalez, confirmed their identities following the devastating accident.

According to reports from local affiliates NBC KPRC-TV and ABC KTRK-TV, authorities suspect the family was en route to an Easter celebration when the fatal crash occurred near Uvalde Road. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez detailed that the vehicle veered out of control in the 13000 block of US-90, leading to multiple rollovers off the road.

During the harrowing incident, Tiffany Rodriguez and Ariella were ejected from the vehicle, requiring emergency airlift to the hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.

In addition to Tiffany and Ariella, a 26-year-old man and two other children—a 2-month-old infant and a 2-year-old boy—were also hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash. Sheriff Gonzalez expressed optimism about their recovery despite the severity of the situation.

Investigations revealed that neither adult was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the single-car accident. However, all three children were securely restrained in their seats, providing a stark contrast in safety measures during the tragic event.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez highlighted excessive speed as a likely contributing factor to the crash, emphasizing the critical role it played in the loss of control and subsequent tragic outcome.

“As they began losing control of the vehicle, there’s a possibility they overcorrected, leading to the vehicle leaving the roadway and leaving a significant trail into the adjacent grassy area,” Sheriff Gonzalez remarked in statements to KPRC-TV.

The community mourns the loss of Tiffany Rodriguez and Ariella as investigations into the crash continue to unfold, highlighting the importance of road safety during holiday travel periods.
