Danny Ooley, assistant director of Public Works, was killed alongside colleague Stacie Mason, a traffic analyst technician, in the parking lot of Vero Beach’s main library. The double homicide occurred Tuesday, leaving the community and county employees in profound grief.

Authorities have identified the suspected shooter as 64-year-old Jesse Scott Ellis, Mason’s estranged husband. Police believe Ellis’s vehicle, later found at South Beach, is connected to the incident. Ellis is currently at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
