The Birmingham Police Department has disclosed the identities of four individuals who perished in a shooting incident on Saturday evening.
The occurrence transpired at a privately operated nightclub situated at 3400 27th Street N.
At approximately 11:08 p.m., officers from the North Precinct were dispatched following reports of multiple individuals sustaining gunshot wounds.
Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene to find numerous individuals suffering from gunshot injuries both inside and outside of the nightclub.
Upon arrival, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services promptly attended to the scene and declared 39-year-old Stevie McGhee deceased after discovering him on the sidewalk outside the establishment.
Inside the nightclub, BFRS also discovered Markeisha Gettings (42) and Angela Weatherspoon (56), both of whom were pronounced dead.
During the police presence, additional gunshot victims began arriving at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center, transported by BFRS personnel and private vehicles.
At UAB hospital, medical staff unfortunately pronounced 24-year-old Lerandus Anderson deceased.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald indicated that at least 10 individuals are currently receiving medical treatment for gunshot wounds at UAB Hospital, with their conditions ranging from stable to critical.
Initial investigations suggest that a birthday celebration was underway at the nightclub, during which an altercation occurred. It is believed that subsequent to this altercation (though the exact timeframe remains unknown), at least one perpetrator drove past the venue in a vehicle and discharged gunfire from the street into the establishment.
Detectives are actively investigating to ascertain whether the shooting stemmed directly from the earlier altercation. Presently, no suspects are in custody.
This incident marks the second shooting within a span of less than six hours resulting in multiple fatalities. Earlier on Saturday evening, three individuals lost their lives in a shooting incident on Indian Summer Drive.
