Fatal Champion Township car crash claims life of Scott P. Bellknapp – Obituary
Late Tuesday, a single-car accident in Champion Township resulted in the death of Scott P. Bellknapp, 58, from Decatur, Georgia, as reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The incident was reported shortly after 10 p.m. when dispatchers received a call about a small vehicle colliding with a utility pole on North Leavitt Road, just south of Painesville Warren Road SW.
Bellknapp, who was driving south on the road, lost control while attempting a turn, causing the vehicle to veer off course, hit several small trees, overturn, and ultimately crash into a utility pole.
He was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. No other individuals were in the car at the time of the accident.
OSHP noted that Bellknapp was not wearing a seatbelt and that speed and alcohol are suspected to have contributed to the crash.
