On Friday night, a crowd gathered in Port Aransas to pay tribute to Jared Hunt.
The 25-year-old lost his life in a boat accident in Port Aransas last Saturday. A GoFundMe has been established to honor Hunt, with proceeds supporting several organizations that were significant to him.
Friends and family convened near the ship channel, the site of the tragic incident, to pray for Hunt.
Kathy Rios, who was Hunt’s youth minister during his middle and high school years, remembered him as an exceptionally kind and gentle individual.
“He was beautiful inside and out, always smiling,” Rios shared. “I cherished our time together in church, whether it was for mission work, Bible study, or leadership activities.”
The Jared Hunt 512 Memorial Fund has now surpassed $67,000 in donations. Rios mentioned that this initiative is a fitting way to honor Hunt’s memory.
“Sending flowers or making a casserole is nice, but supporting his foundation, which will help other kids in numerous ways, seems perfect,” Rios remarked.
Ellie Tilton, who attended Calallen High School and Texas A&M University with Hunt, also spoke highly of the memorial fund. She highlighted its contributions to the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show, Sea City Work Camp, the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Aggie Ring Scholarship Program, Lou Gehrig’s Disease research, and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
“Every time I refresh the GoFundMe page, I’m amazed by the impact he had on others and how his legacy will continue for many years,” Tilton said.
Tilton also emphasized the importance of mutual support among Hunt’s loved ones following the accident.
“I want to encourage everyone to hug their family, hug their loved ones, and tell them you love them,” Tilton said. “You never know what tomorrow holds.”
