A heart-wrenching tragedy has struck a New York City family, who are now grappling with the loss of four of their loved ones, including two young children. On Friday night, police apprehended a 24-year-old man in connection with the stabbing deaths of two women and two young children in their Brooklyn apartment.
Authorities have yet to reveal the suspect’s connection to the victims. The grisly discovery came after a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at an apartment located at Avenue P and West Eighth Street in Bensonhurst.
The victims have been identified as Mavlyuda Fayzieva, 56; Maftuna Khakimova, 27; Kamila Shavkatova, 5; and Timur Shavkatov, 4. According to relatives, Khakimova was the mother of the children, and Fayzieva was Khakimova’s mother-in-law.
A family member, who chose to remain anonymous, shared with CBS New York the profound grief of the children’s father. “He’s completely shattered,” the relative said. “He feels as if everything has been taken from him—his wife, his two kids, and his mother.”
The family had emigrated from Uzbekistan in 2007. The relative described the young siblings as endearing and full of life.
Neighbors recount a harrowing scene as emergency responders arrived. Juan Perez, who lives across the street, was stirred awake by the sounds of intense grief. “I saw a man being consoled; he was inconsolable,” Perez recounted. Jennifer Ponzi, another neighbor, noted seeing a flurry of police activity and hearing cries of despair.
Another neighbor highlighted the family’s long-standing presence in the building, noting their shared heritage with the victim’s grandmother. “She was always so helpful to me when I first arrived ten years ago,” the neighbor recalled.
The investigation into this tragic incident is still underway.
