In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, two individuals lost their lives and 17 others sustained injuries during a shooting at a block party in Detroit. According to reports from Detroit police, the gunfire erupted at 2:25 a.m. on the city’s east side. The Michigan State Police confirmed the two deaths through a statement on X.
“The Michigan State Police is collaborating with the Detroit Police Department as part of our joint efforts on the Homicide Task Force,” stated the state police.
At this time, no suspect has been taken into custody, and authorities have not disclosed any details regarding the identity of a potential suspect.
The Detroit Police Department mentioned in an afternoon statement that their investigators and forensic teams are diligently examining all available evidence. A press conference is anticipated on Monday.
“DPD will unveil a new, comprehensive strategy for handling block parties and will share full details at a briefing with the chief and mayor tomorrow,” added the police department.
