The tragic plane crash near Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport on Friday has claimed the lives of three individuals from Quebec, Canada. The victims include the pilot, Jawdat Khawam, 54, along with passengers Martine Arseneault, 45, and her 8-year-old daughter, Daphne Khawam. All three hailed from Laval, Quebec, located near Montreal.
Jawdat Khawam was the President and CEO of Uandmycar.com, which owned the Beechcraft BE-60 involved in the incident. The aircraft had taken off from Plattsburgh, NY International Airport approximately two hours prior to the crash, which occurred while the plane was making an emergency landing attempt.
On Saturday, investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) arrived at the crash site in Fowler Township to examine the scorched wreckage and gather evidence. The NTSB is investigating various elements that might have contributed to the crash, including the aircraft’s condition, the pilot’s actions, and the surrounding environment. This investigation will encompass flight data, air traffic communications, and maintenance records.
The NTSB has indicated that while it is not yet certain, the pilot’s report of engine power loss could be a significant factor in the crash. A preliminary report is anticipated from the NTSB within the next 30 days.
In addition to the NTSB, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration are also involved in the investigation. Emergency dispatchers received reports just after 7 p.m. on Friday about the plane crashing near the Youngstown Air Reserve Station at the intersection of state Route 11 and King Graves Road. The aircraft was reportedly trying to make an emergency landing on Runway 14 at the time of the crash.
The Beechcraft BE-60 involved in the accident was manufactured in 1977.
