Police in Pryor Creek have reported that Aaron Gonzalez has died following a shooting incident at the Econo Lodge Motel on Sunday evening. The tragic event occurred around 9:30 p.m., and authorities have a suspect in custody.
According to Police Chief Jeremy Cantrell, officers discovered Gonzalez outside a motel room with two gunshot wounds to his upper body. The suspect, identified as James Leroy Jackson, fled the scene, but thanks to descriptions from witnesses, Mayes County deputies were able to apprehend Jackson near Chouteau.
Gonzalez, who was from Mexico and staying at the motel for work, succumbed to his injuries. Initial reports and eyewitnesses indicate that Gonzalez was outside the motel when Jackson arrived in a vehicle. A brief confrontation ensued before Jackson fired multiple shots at Gonzalez.
Jackson faces potential felony charges, including first-degree murder, while the investigation is being overseen by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
