Fatal Waterbury car crash death of Shar’ref Mahan – Obituary
Late on the night of Friday, July 19, at around 11 p.m., a tragic car accident took place on Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury, New Haven County.
Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department reported that a head-on collision between two high-speed vehicles resulted in both cars bursting into flames.
The crash involved an Audi A7 and a Lexus GS300. Shar’ref Mahan, 26, from West Hartford, was the driver of the Audi. Danaya Foster, 25, from Waterbury, was a rear passenger in the Audi. Both of these individuals tragically lost their lives in the incident.
Lt. Bessette added that the Lexus was driven by Mark Sousa, 44, of Waterbury, who was the only occupant in that vehicle. The front passenger in the Audi is yet to be identified, and the state Office of Chief Medical Examiner is assisting in confirming their identity.
Preliminary findings indicate that both vehicles were traveling at high speeds when they collided head-on in the northbound lane near 690 Thomaston Avenue. The Waterbury Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating the crash.
