Doris Marcela Aguilar, a 25-year-old woman who had been reported missing earlier this month, was discovered deceased alongside the man she had previously warned family and friends about.
Aguilar was last seen on July 1, and her car was located abandoned in a Phoenix parking lot a week later.
About a week after that, her body was found in a vehicle next to Juan Cuéllar, 51. Authorities believe Cuéllar took Aguilar’s life before ending his own. The bodies were identified last Friday.
The two individuals were found in a car parked at a gym, their remains already in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting they had been there for several days.
Aguilar had previously informed her loved ones about Cuéllar, mentioning that she had switched gyms multiple times to avoid him.
Steve Fischer, a private investigator hired by Aguilar’s family, shared with the media that she had expressed serious concerns about Cuéllar, indicating he was a significant threat to her safety. “She was passionate about fitness and dedicated to helping others,” Fischer noted.
Fischer also revealed that Cuéllar had sent alarming messages to Aguilar, including a Facebook post dated June 27, in which he wrote, “Getting my Lifetime [gym] membership back. See you soon.” This post was interpreted as a threat directed at Aguilar.
Cuéllar had rented a car to reach Aguilar and left a note inside the vehicle that appeared to suggest she had died by suicide. However, investigations later determined that this was not the case.
