On Sunday evening, the bodies of Ghulam Sharifi and Nooria Sharifi were discovered in a vehicle near the Hammett Road and Highway 99 intersection in Salida, as confirmed by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office. According to Officer Tom Olsen from the California Highway Patrol, the incident is believed to be a murder-suicide.
The Modesto Fire Department had responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 6 p.m., which was flagged as a case of domestic violence. When emergency responders, including Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies, arrived, they found the bodies inside a Honda sedan parked on the east shoulder of the Hammett off-ramp.
The deceased man was identified as 59-year-old Ghulam Sharifi from Modesto, while the woman was 45-year-old Nooria Sharifi, also of Modesto. A knife believed to be involved in the incident was recovered from the scene, according to Olsen.
