Authorities have identified Luis Santiago from Linden as the driver who tragically perished in a severe tractor-trailer explosion in Clifton, New Jersey, earlier this week.
Details have emerged regarding the circumstances of the crash, which occurred on Route 3 East.
Santiago was operating the commercial truck when it collided with an NJ Transit bus before crashing into a barrier. This collision ignited a fire, leading to a dramatic explosion.
The NJ Transit bus was carrying 29 passengers at the time, but fortunately, no injuries were reported among them.
The trucking company revealed that the truck was transporting flammable and corrosive non-toxic materials, and had placards indicating it was carrying an explosive chemical.
Some of these materials did spill, and when police arrived, they encountered additional explosions.
A cellphone video captured a striking explosion on the road, with a firefighter narrowly avoiding a flaming barrel that was hurled into the air.
On Tuesday, authorities released footage of the explosion, which occurred just after 9 a.m. on Monday. The incident took place in the eastbound lanes between East Valley Road and Grove Street, resulting in a road closure that lasted over 24 hours.
