Fatal Toronto bus fire death of Nyima Dolma – Obituary

Toronto police have named Nyima Dolma, 28, as the woman who succumbed to her injuries in the hospital after being set on fire on a city bus last month.

Dolma passed away last week following the horrific incident that occurred at Kipling station, located at the intersection of Kipling Avenue and Dundas Avenue West, around 12:25 p.m. on June 17.

Tenzin Norbu, 33, who was apprehended in the vicinity, was initially charged with attempted murder.

This charge has now been elevated to first-degree murder. In addition to this, Norbu faces charges of assault with a weapon, creating a public nuisance that jeopardized safety, and mischief involving damage over $5,000.

According to police reports, a man on the bus had doused Dolma with a flammable liquid before setting it alight. Initially, authorities believed the attack to be both random and motivated by hate.

However, a recent update confirmed that Dolma and her alleged assailant did not have any prior connection.

Norbu made a court appearance via video link on Monday.

The police are calling for anyone with information to reach out to homicide detectives at 416-808-7400, or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
