Fatal JBLM drowning death of Chief Warrant Officer 3 Hao Y. Li – Obituary
On July 15, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Hao Y. Li, a soldier stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, tragically drowned while trying to rescue his son from the depths of American Lake.
The incident occurred at JBLM’s Shoreline Beach Park, as confirmed by I Corps in a statement released Monday.
Lt. Col. Brian Evans, battalion commander, expressed profound grief over Li’s passing, noting, “We feel deep sorrow over the loss of Chief Warrant Officer 3 Li.
He was a respected and admired member of Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, and he will be profoundly missed.”
A GoFundMe campaign revealed that Li was attempting to save his son, Bo, who had fallen into deep water.
Both father and son required resuscitation, but while Bo is now in stable condition in the ICU, Hao did not survive. The campaign has raised nearly $17,000 as of Tuesday morning.
The fundraising post highlights Li’s selflessness and deep affection for his family, stating, “Hao was known for his selflessness and deep love for his family. His wife Stephanie, mother Kelly Li, and son Bo were the center of his universe.”
Li joined the Army in 2005, working in logistics, and became a warrant officer in 2015.
