Fatal Crowley drowning death of Pascual Garcia Torres – Obituary
A family is grieving the tragic loss of Pascual Garcia Torres, a father of three, who drowned while attempting to rescue two boys in the West Fork of the Trinity River on Sunday afternoon.
The Fort Worth Fire Department reported that the 38-year-old Crowley resident jumped into the river at Gateway Park to assist a child in distress but did not resurface.
According to the fire department, Garcia Torres managed to save one child, but his family told WFAA he rescued two boys.
Valeria Perez, Garcia Torres’s sister-in-law, revealed that the family was fishing at the park when they saw two boys struggling in the water. Although they were strangers, Garcia Torres immediately entered the river to help.
Perez recounted, “We were all there to enjoy ourselves, and now I’m still in disbelief. He saved one boy and went back for the other. That’s when he started calling for help, shouting ‘Ayudame’—those were his final words.”
The Fort Worth Fire Department, utilizing drones, found and recovered Garcia Torres’s body later that evening.
Garcia Torres had recently arrived in the U.S. just seven months ago. He was the primary breadwinner for his wife and three children in Mexico. Perez expressed the family’s profound sorrow, saying, “It’s so difficult. How do you explain to a three-year-old that his father won’t be coming home?” The young son continues to ask for his father’s return.
To assist with returning Garcia Torres’s body to Mexico, his family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign, in accordance with his widow’s wishes. Perez added, “He was simply trying to help others, and he ended up giving his life in the process.”
Ultimately, Pascual Garcia Torres is remembered as a hero who sacrificed himself for others.
