The search for answers continues as the family of Tiana Dye, a 21-year-old Alabama State University student, mourns her tragic death. Dye was found on July 14 with a fatal stab wound to her chest, just a short distance from the university campus, as reported by 11 Alive.
The authorities have yet to identify any suspects, and the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.
Dye was on the verge of earning her degree in biochemistry and had aspirations of becoming a dermatologist. Her mother, Danielle Luckett, shared the harrowing moment she received the news about her daughter.
“They informed me that my daughter arrived with a stab wound and despite their best efforts, they couldn’t save her,” Luckett told 11 Alive. “It was the worst day of my life, and it remains so.”
“I picture her lying there, likely fighting for her life,” Luckett added. “It devastates me that I wasn’t able to assist her. I can’t fathom moving forward knowing I’ll never see my child again.”
Luckett revealed that security footage from Dye’s apartment shows a person placing a knife on the porch and talking on the phone, leading her to believe that the stabbing was not an accident or act of self-defense. “It appears to be a deliberate act of murder,” Luckett said. “Something needs to be done about this.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to cover funeral expenses. The page notes that Dye was “dedicated to academic excellence and social justice,” earning a spot on the Dean’s List through her hard work and perseverance.
