The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of two individuals who perished in the plane crash near Kneeland Airport at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23.
The pilot, 49-year-old Gabriel Joshua Kulp from Grass Valley, California, and the passenger, 60-year-old helicopter mechanic Thomias Edward Smith from Carmichael, California, were the only bodies recovered from the crash site.
Their next of kin have been informed. Autopsies will be conducted in the upcoming days to determine the exact causes of death. The crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
