The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that Thomias Edward Smith, a 60-year-old helicopter mechanic from Carmichael, California, was one of the two individuals who died in the plane crash near Kneeland Airport at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23.
Thomias was a passenger in the Cessna piloted by 49-year-old Gabriel Joshua Kulp of Grass Valley, California. Both men were recovered from the wreckage.
Their next of kin have been notified. Autopsies are scheduled in the coming days to determine the exact causes of death. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the cause of the crash.
