Tributes are flooding social media following the tragic plane crash in Tofino, B.C., earlier this week that claimed the lives of two men.
The victims have been named as Frank Borostyankoi and Chris Biggerstaff, both veterinarians from California.
According to reports, the two were close friends returning from their annual fishing expedition in B.C. when their small private aircraft’s engine caught fire during takeoff.
The third passenger aboard the six-seat plane was extracted from the wreckage and is currently hospitalized with severe injuries.
A heartfelt message on a Facebook page for the Modoc High School Class of 1982 describes Chris as “an extraordinary human being,” noting that his passion for fishing was what led him to Canada. The post continues, “(Biggerstaff) will be missed by so many people in this world.”
A statement from Beach Boulevard Pet Hospital mourns Dr. Frank Borostyankoi’s passing, highlighting his excellence as a surgeon, loving husband, father, and businessman. “He will be truly missed,” the post reads.
Online condolences from veterinary clinics across Southern California reveal that Borostyankoi and Biggerstaff were renowned orthopedic surgeons in the area.
The crash occurred on the runway at Long Beach Airport on Thursday just before 1 p.m. The RCMP, Transportation Safety Board, and BC Coroners Service are currently investigating the cause of this tragic accident.
