Fatal Spencerport Car Crash Death of Maria Eichas – Obituary
Maria Eichas, a young woman who had a passion for basketball and was a student at Spencerport High School, tragically lost her life in a recent car crash. Following the accident, the driver, Hackett, appeared in Parma Town Court on Sunday and was held at Monroe County Jail on $40,000 cash bail, as reported by Hurley.
Lanette Cypher, Communications Director for Spencerport Central School District, was unable to provide further details about Eichas but confirmed that grief counseling services are available for students and staff affected by the loss.
Superintendent Ty Zinkiewich communicated to Spencerport families that counseling sessions will be offered for graduates, families, and friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cosgrove Middle School’s library, located at 2749 Spencerport Road.
In his letter, Zinkiewich expressed the deep sorrow felt by the community and emphasized the importance of coming together in support. “Words cannot even describe the depth of emotions right now,” he wrote.
“Yet my hope is that we draw strength by comforting each other through this unthinkable heartbreak.” He also noted that updates will be shared as available and with the family’s permission, urging patience and understanding during this difficult time.
On Wednesday, the community is invited to honor Eichas by wearing blue and gold or Spencerport Ranger apparel. This gesture aims to reflect the family’s and the district’s shared love and respect for Eichas.
In the crash, an 18-year-old passenger from the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries but is expected to recover. Deputies are continuing their investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
