Fatal Fort Wayne shooting death of Jathen Allen Maxwell – Obituary
A 20-year-old man from Fort Wayne, Jathen Allen Maxwell, has been confirmed as the victim in an early morning shooting on Warsaw Street, according to the Allen County coroner’s office.
Maxwell succumbed to gunshot wounds to his head and right hip, marking the 21st homicide in Allen County this year, the coroner’s office reported following an autopsy.
Fort Wayne police reported that officers heard gunfire near Warsaw Street and Rudisill Boulevard shortly before 12:05 a.m. At the same time, the emergency dispatch center received a call about a shooting incident in the 3900 block of Warsaw Street.
Upon arrival, officers found a man with at least one gunshot wound east of Lafayette Street.
Maxwell was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, as confirmed by the coroner’s office.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and involves the city police, the county prosecutor’s office, and the coroner’s office.
