Fatal Estill County shooting death of Jett Ballard – Obituary

Authorities have identified the 14-year-old boy who was tragically killed in an accidental shooting in Estill County as Jett Ballard from Berea.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on July 12 on Clark Road. According to police, Jett was accidentally shot by a 13-year-old outside a residence.

The Estill County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond for the investigation. Coroner Jimmy Wise confirmed that no foul play is suspected.

Jett was about to begin his high school career at Madison Southern High School in Berea and had previously played football for the Farristown Middle School program.

He was recognized as a two-year All-Star Classic player and participated in the Region 3 Battle of the Region teams during his middle school years.

In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to help the Ballard family, with a target of $20,000. By Wednesday afternoon, the campaign had already raised nearly $15,000.
