Fatal Etobicoke shooting death of Matthew Bergart – Obituary
Toronto police have named Matthew Bergart, a 30-year-old Toronto resident, as the victim of an overnight shooting during a home invasion in Etobicoke.
Bergart was fatally shot on Thursday in a residence near Long Branch Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard West. Authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:25 a.m.
According to a Thursday news release, police reported that three individuals forcibly entered the home in search of valuables.
Bergart sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
The suspects, described by police as wearing dark clothing and face coverings, fled the scene in a white or light-colored sedan, heading south on Long Branch Avenue before turning west on Lake Shore Boulevard West.
Police are appealing to the public for any information related to the incident.
