Fatal Etobicoke shooting death of Seymour Gibbs – Obituary
Toronto police are now treating the death of a second individual involved in a mass shooting in Etobicoke over the weekend as a homicide.
The shooting occurred late Sunday night in the parking lot of North Albion Collegiate Institute, located near Mount Olive Drive and Kipling Avenue.
Five men were shot during the incident, all of whom were transported to the hospital with gunshot injuries. Unfortunately, two of the victims have since passed away. The remaining injured individuals are reported to have either serious or non-life-threatening injuries.
The first victim identified was Delroy “George” Parkes, 61, formerly from Woodstock, Ontario, who was declared dead on Sunday.
The second deceased victim, Seymour Gibbs, 46, from Toronto, was pronounced dead on Wednesday. With these fatalities, Parkes and Gibbs are now recognized as the 34th and 35th homicide victims in the city this year.
Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw announced on Thursday that the second death would be classified as a homicide following the coroner’s report. Initially, an autopsy was required to confirm the cause of death.
According to police, the violence began when a group of men was congregating in the parking lot after a soccer game. A dark pickup truck arrived, and two individuals exited the vehicle, opening fire on the group before fleeing the scene.
Authorities have stated that there appears to be no connection between the suspects and the victims.
The search for the perpetrators remains active, and police have not released detailed descriptions of the suspects. Chief Demkiw emphasized that the investigation is ongoing but declined to provide further specifics.
The police are calling on the public for any information that could assist in solving this case.
