In Albany, two individuals are now in custody following a tragic shooting at the Knights Inn Hotel. The Albany Police Department (APD) reported that the shooting occurred around 7:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 27. James Edward Murphy III, 27, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The APD reviewed surveillance footage which led to the identification of the suspect and their vehicle. Upon searching the area, the suspect’s vehicle was discovered at a residence in Lee County. When officers arrived, they saw Tyler Allison, 19, attempting to flee through the back of the residence. After a short pursuit, he was apprehended.
Charde’shay Jourdian King, 28, the victim’s girlfriend, was also transported to the Law Enforcement Center from the hotel. The investigation revealed that the shooting was the result of a botched armed robbery. All parties involved had arranged to meet at the Knights Inn after exchanging messages on a website called Listcrawler.
Both Allison and King have been booked into the Dougherty County Jail. Allison faces charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm during a crime, and armed robbery. He was previously out on bond from an aggravated assault charge from the prior year. King is charged with felony murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, and prostitution.
Murphy’s body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy, as stated by Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler.
