Baltimore Police have identified Marcus Martin, 40, as the victim in a Monday morning officer-involved shooting. The incident unfolded around 9:18 p.m. on Sunday, when police received a report of an assault and an armed individual.
Authorities managed to evacuate two people from the residence but encountered another person inside who was experiencing a behavioral health crisis and was armed. Specialized teams were deployed, and after approximately six hours, the individual emerged from the house and fired a weapon.
Deputy Commissioner Sheree Briscoe confirmed that at least one officer returned fire, hitting the individual. Despite efforts from a SWAT medic, the person was later pronounced dead.
Mayor Brandon Scott expressed relief that no additional injuries occurred and emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation into the shooting.
The crisis involved both hostage negotiation and SWAT teams, but a mental health mobile crisis team was not dispatched due to the presence of a weapon. Adrienne Breidenstine from Behavioral Health System Baltimore explained that such teams typically do not respond to situations involving weapons due to the increased danger, necessitating police involvement.
