Two men lost their lives in a tragic boating accident over the weekend on Rough River Lake. The incident occurred late at night, with the Falls of Rough Volunteer Fire Department reporting that they were called to the scene around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday.

The collision involved a pontoon boat carrying eight passengers and a bass boat with two occupants. While the individuals on the bass boat emerged unscathed, the crash proved fatal for two of the pontoon’s occupants.

According to a statement from the Grayson County Coroner, the bass boat collided with the pontoon, which was anchored with its navigation lights turned off. David Stomberger, 46, of Crestwood, Kentucky, who was piloting the pontoon, was one of the victims.

The second victim, 51-year-old Eric Derloshon from Floyd Knobs, Indiana, was thrown overboard during the crash and drowned. It took search teams over 12 hours to recover his body from the water.

Authorities are currently awaiting toxicology results to determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.
