Fatal Aransas Pass Collision Death of Colin Ocker and Jared Dale Hunt – Obituary
On Sunday morning, the U.S. Coast Guard Heartland announced it had suspended the active search for a boater who went missing following an early Saturday morning collision near Aransas Pass.
The search effort was conducted after a recreational vehicle and a commercial tanker collided, as reported by a good Samaritan at around 5:28 a.m. via VHF-FM channel 16.
Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi quickly responded, broadcasting an urgent marine information alert and dispatching an MH-65 helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi along with a 29-foot Response Boat from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas.
Over the course of approximately 44 hours, rescue teams scoured more than 127 square miles by air and sea.
The morning update revealed that while a good Samaritan and a pilot boat managed to recover three individuals from the water, one was deceased. The two survivors received emergency medical assistance.
The search involved multiple agencies, including Coast Guard Corpus Christi, Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Coast Guard Station Port Aransas, Coast Guard Cutter Manta, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Aransas Pass Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Port of Corpus Christi Police Department. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
