On Friday morning, a quadruple shooting at a home on Casa Nova Drive in Vaughan’s Woodbridge neighborhood resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Police arrived at the scene just before 9 a.m. to find four victims with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the others were rushed to the hospital, with one suffering from life-threatening injuries.
By Saturday, authorities confirmed the deaths of two-year-old Marcus Vu and 40-year-old Thi Trang Do. The exact details of which individual passed away at the scene versus in the hospital have not been disclosed, but an adult’s body was seen being removed from the home. The remaining two victims are reported to be in stable condition.
Van Viet Duong, a 41-year-old from Toronto, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with this incident. Police believe Duong was acquainted with the victims, although the nature of their relationship has not been revealed. They consider the shooting to be targeted.
York Regional Police are calling for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the shooting to come forward.
Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots, with one witness recounting hearing ten shots followed by a brief pause and then five to six more. Another resident observed someone they suspected to be the shooter leaving the scene in a car.
Additionally, it has come to light that vehicles in the driveway of the home were set on fire on Christmas Day. While police have not commented on this past incident, they have stated that it will be considered in the ongoing investigation.
