Authorities reported on Sunday that a plane crash on Beaver Island in Michigan resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a real estate agent and a couple planning to open a winery and vineyard on the island.
The accident occurred on Saturday, west of Mackinaw City, claiming the lives of four of the five people aboard. Lt. William Church from the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the deceased included Kate Leese and Adam Kendall, both residents of Beaver Island, along with Mike Perdue from Gaylord.
The name of the pilot who also perished has not yet been released. Perdue’s 11-year-old daughter sustained severe injuries and remains in the hospital.
Perdue, who worked as a real estate agent, was identified by Church. Leese and Kendall had recently relocated to Beaver Island after years of travel, intending to establish Antho Vineyards, a winery and tasting room. Leese, a biochemist, had shared with The Detroit News a week prior to the crash their vision of creating a welcoming space for visitors to enjoy wine and camaraderie.
The twin-engine Britten-Norman aircraft was en route from Charlevoix on Michigan’s lower peninsula when it went down. The Federal Aviation Administration stated it will participate in the investigation led by the National Transportation Safety Board.
