Authorities in the Chicago area are probing a deadly shooting that occurred in west suburban Elgin on Tuesday afternoon.
Elgin police reported that they responded to a call about a shooting at a residence on the 600 block of Raymond Street shortly after 1:45 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a Cook County hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
In the same home, officers found a man who had apparently shot himself and was deceased.
The woman has been identified as 47-year-old Gina M. Benfield, a resident of the block where the shooting took place.
Initial findings indicate that the shooting may have been related to a domestic issue. The investigation is ongoing, with the Kane County Coroner’s Office and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office involved.
