Fatal Paso Robles car crash claims the lives of Helmut Stich and Karen Stich, 72 – Obituary
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has identified the Paso Robles couple involved in a deadly accident on Highway 46 last month as 83-year-old Helmut Stich and 72-year-old Karen Stich.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight when Helmut Stich was driving a 2020 Hyundai westbound on Highway 46, approximately four miles east of Highway 41. He was trailing behind a tractor trailer when he attempted to overtake it, moving into the lane of oncoming traffic, according to the CHP.
At that moment, a Ford F-350 pickup truck, heading eastbound, collided head-on with the Hyundai. Both Helmut and Karen Stich were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the F-350, identified as Grant McKenezie from San Diego, sustained major injuries in the crash.
