Fatal Mechanic Falls shooting death of Jennifer Barney – Obituary
The Mechanic Falls Police Department has confirmed the identities of the woman and two girls found deceased at a Highland Avenue residence over the weekend. Police Chief Jeffrey Goss reported that 37-year-old Jennifer Barney’s death was ruled a suicide, while her daughters, 7-year-old Hope West and 11-year-old Harmony West, were determined to have been victims of homicide.
According to Goss, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, an officer was dispatched to 5 Highland Avenue in response to a stolen U-Haul truck that had not been returned. Upon arriving at the property, the officer located the U-Haul and subsequently made contact with a deputy from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office. They were investigating the truck’s rental, which was under Barney’s name.
The investigation led to the grim discovery of Barney’s body inside the home. Further searches revealed the two girls also deceased within the residence.
