Fatal Three Forks crash claims the life of Jason Sullivan – Obituary
Jason Sullivan, a 50-year-old resident of Basin, Montana, tragically lost his life in a head-on collision on Interstate 90 near Three Forks on July 31, 2024. Broadwater County Sheriff Nick Rauser identified Sullivan as one of the two victims of the crash, which occurred when a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the highway struck him head-on.
According to a post on the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the accident was caused by 56-year-old Robert Askins of Spokane, Washington, who made a U-turn on the interstate, driving westbound in the eastbound lane. The incident was reported to authorities at 7:19 a.m. on Wednesday by several witnesses who saw the wrong-way driver.
Just four minutes after the initial reports, a call was made to dispatch about the crash at mile marker 272. Unfortunately, both Sullivan and Askins were pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Rauser also noted that two dogs were found in Askins’ vehicle. One of the dogs, severely injured in the crash, had to be put down, while the other survived and is currently being adopted.
