Shoshone County authorities have identified the deceased driver as Eric Rodriguez, approximately 25 years old. His relatives have been informed of the tragic incident.
According to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, an autopsy was carried out on Rodriguez’s body, which was discovered at 10:32 p.m. near the intersection of Country Club Lane and Highwater Road.
Deputies noted that Rodriguez’s vehicle, a full-sized truck, appeared to have been involved in a collision while traveling west on Country Club Lane.
Firefighters from Shoshone Fire Districts No. 1 and 2 managed to put out the blaze, revealing the deceased individual inside the severely damaged and burnt truck. Although the vehicle was extensively charred, it is believed to be a newer model of a full-sized pickup, possibly a GMC 1500.
The autopsy confirmed that the driver was a male, likely between 20 and 40 years old, weighing at least 145 pounds.
Sheriff Holly Lindsey mentioned that efforts were underway to identify the deceased quickly. “We are collaborating with multiple agencies to expedite the identification process and notify the victim’s family before social media does,” Lindsey said.
Speed is suspected to have played a role in the fatal crash. Due to the vehicle being fully engulfed in flames, initial efforts to identify the driver were challenging, leading the sheriff’s office to seek public assistance in confirming the victim’s identity and notifying his family.
