Fatal Johnson County car crash claims the life of Dr. Usha Mallik – Obituary.
Dr. Usha Mallik, a Professor Emeritus at the University of Iowa, tragically lost her life in a multi-vehicle collision in Johnson County on Sunday. The incident, which also resulted in four others being injured, was confirmed by a University of Iowa spokesperson on Monday.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that the accident occurred when Thomas Perkins, traveling westbound on 140th Street near Solon, disregarded a stop sign at around 5:30 pm. Perkins’ vehicle struck a camper being towed northbound on Highway 1, leading to a collision with the driver’s side of Dr. Mallik’s car.
Dr. Mallik, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Perkins sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical attention. Three other individuals, including a 1-year-old child, were also transported to the hospital for their injuries. A southbound vehicle was struck by debris from the camper, but the driver remained unharmed.
