Authorities have identified Rico Benavidez, a 25-year-old from Crete, as the pedestrian who was fatally struck early Sunday morning near a casino in Lincoln. The incident occurred around 12:55 a.m. at the intersection of First Street and Denton Road, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
Investigators believe that Benavidez was hit by an eastbound vehicle while he was crossing Denton Road, though he was not within a designated crosswalk at the time. After being transported to a nearby hospital, Benavidez succumbed to his injuries. The driver involved in the incident stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
