Johnny Bash dies in fatal Irvine shooting
Fatal Irvine shooting death of Johnny Bash – Obituary
On Monday morning, Johnny Bash, a man confined to a wheelchair, tragically lost his life when a former caregiver drove a minivan into his Irvine home. The incident unfolded around 2:15 a.m. near the intersection of Whistling Swan and Wetstone in the Woodbridge neighborhood, according to Irvine Police Department spokesperson Kyle Oldoerp.
Upon arrival, police discovered an unidentified man dead at the scene and also found a gas leak in the home, which was subsequently addressed.
Later, at approximately 3:15 a.m., an officer contacted a potential suspect on foot near West Yale Loop and Stone Creek South. Oldoerp confirmed that an officer-involved shooting occurred, and a knife was recovered from the scene. The exact circumstances that led to the officer’s actions remain unclear.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is in serious condition at a hospital following the shooting. Details regarding the relationship between Bash and the suspect have not been disclosed by investigators. However, family members have identified the suspect as a former caregiver.
Lindsey Myers, the victim’s brother-in-law, shared that Bash had been paralyzed from the waist down due to a previous accident. “He was a defenseless victim in this tragic event,” Myers lamented. “Johnny was an incredible person but had no way to defend himself… it’s an unimaginable loss.”
