Fatal Alamosa County shooting death of Enrique Parra Jr. – Obituary
Alamosa County Coroner Joe Dzuris confirmed on Monday that Enrique Parra Jr., aged 44, was identified as the victim of a shooting that occurred on August 1. The cause of death has been determined as homicide.
The suspect in this case is Larry Chavez, who is believed to have fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. Chavez was apprehended on August 2 in Santa Fe, NM, by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office.
Chavez now faces charges of second-degree murder, robbery, and auto theft related to the incident, which occurred on the 1700 block of State Avenue. According to the Alamosa Police Department, Parra and Chavez were known to each other, though the motive behind the shooting remains unclear and is still under investigation.
The incident was reported shortly after 6:11 p.m. at Century Mobile Home Park. When law enforcement arrived, they found Parra suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite attempts to save his life, he was transported to San Luis Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Chavez had fled in Parra’s 2012 Lincoln MKZ. Authorities conducted an extensive search south of town near County Road 105 South, but Chavez was not located until the following day in Santa Fe.
The stolen vehicle has been recovered by Alamosa Police Department detectives, who are coordinating with New Mexico law enforcement for Chavez’s extradition to Alamosa. The case will be managed by the 12th Judicial District and District Attorney Anne Kelly once Chavez is returned to Colorado.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available from the district attorney’s office.
