Authorities reported that following the tragic shooting of Zharia Wilcox-Ellis in the parking lot of a Waltham, Massachusetts apartment complex, her ex-girlfriend has been detained on charges of assault.
While no direct arrests related to Wilcox-Ellis’s shooting have been made, the Waltham Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office confirmed on Monday that the investigation is ongoing.
Melanie Williams, Wilcox-Ellis’s former partner, appeared in court on Monday afternoon facing accusations of assault and battery against a family member.
Williams, who resides at the Wright Apartments on Second Avenue, was captured on surveillance footage engaging in a physical altercation with Wilcox-Ellis shortly before the shooting occurred. The two women were previously involved in a relationship, as noted by the prosecutors.
