Fatal Irvine shooting death of John Alexander Bash III – Obituary
Authorities have reported that a man was shot by Irvine police after allegedly crashing into the home of a paralyzed individual he had previously cared for, resulting in the victim’s death early Monday morning.
The incident unfolded around 2:15 a.m. in the Woodbridge community near the intersection of Whistling Swan and Wetstone, according to a Facebook update from the Irvine Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a Honda Odyssey embedded in the home’s garage door and found John Alexander Bash III deceased inside the residence. Bash, identified as the homeowner, was reportedly stabbed, and his current caregiver made the grim discovery.
Approximately an hour later, officers encountered a potential suspect, 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shindle, near West Yale Loop and Stone Creek South, roughly a quarter-mile from the crash scene.
Shindle was reportedly brandishing a knife as he approached the officers. The police fired at Shindle, who was later identified as the owner of the crashed vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The victim’s family revealed to KTLA-TV that Bash, who was paralyzed from the waist down following an accident years ago, had previously been cared for by Shindle.
Lindsey Myers, Bash’s brother-in-law, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Johnny was an excellent person but also defenseless. He had no chance to defend himself. It’s the saddest thing I’ve ever, ever seen.”
